Activities Coordinator

Voices for Independence is seeking an Activities Coordinator to support our Activities and Fitness department. As a goodwill ambassador for our mission-driven organization, you will facilitate programs that reflect the Independent Living philosophy by helping individuals live their best, most self-directed lives.

This role is responsible for organizing and executing a variety of events, partnerships, and activities designed to benefit both consumers and staff. If you’re an enthusiastic self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, diverse environment, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute engaging activities and events for consumers and staff
  • Serve as a supportive coach and mentor to individuals with disabilities
  • Work within budget parameters and coordinate event logistics (reservations, materials, etc.)
  • Support culinary and fitness program components assigned
  • Suggest and develop new activity offerings in alignment with VFI’s mission
  • Maintain ongoing communication with management and provide regular updates
  • Ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants
  • Promote advocacy, empowerment, and self-direction among consumers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong desire and ability to plan and lead inclusive activities
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates patience, coaching skills, and a team-first attitude
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to ethical standards
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, community-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the disability rights movement
  • Prior training or experience with individuals with physical/intellectual disabilities
  • Coursework or post-secondary education in related fields
  • Culinary experience (food prep, service, safe food-handling)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and general office systems
  • Experience in nonprofit or grant-based work
  • 3–5 years in a coaching, supervisory, or event coordination role
  • Strong customer service background

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent lifting and moving of up to 30 lbs., with occasional lifting of heavier mobility equipment.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role that may include fieldwork and in-office responsibilities. Occasional travel throughout our service area and rare overnight travel may be required.
