Hello Everyone, It is no secret that Voices for Independence (VFI) has grown a lot in the 16 years I have had the privilege to serve as the Executive Director. I truly want to thank the consumers, attendants, staff and Board of Directors for working alongside of me to make VFI what it is today. Almost 10 years ago, we moved our office to its current location at 1107 Payne Avenue. That move allowed us to get people with disabilities actively involved, offering more programs, services and activities. I had a dream of making VFI a place where people could connect with other people, share experiences; make changes in their lives and the community around them. I am happy to say I think we accomplish that every day. We have grown a lot, so in order to provide the services and activities that we always have, plus more, we need more space. We are moving to 1432 Wilkins Road, formerly Vernondale Elementary School. It is on a bus line and serviced by LIFT. We anticipate being moved by Fall of 2017. Construction should begin in January of 2017. The 33,000 square foot building will be renovated to be made completely accessible. The large classrooms will be turned into offices. A new larger fitness center will be created with shower facilities. The building sits on five and a half acres of property which will allow us to do much more outdoors. We will have a designated training space for attendants and more room for Mid-Day Café – just to name a few items to get excited about. We will continue to operate at our current location as our new building is being renovated. We do not intend any disruption of service except for moving week. As the building progresses we will update you on Facebook.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks again for the opportunity to serve you. I look forward to an exciting future!
